Oh yes Firefox3 broke the Guinness world record, well of course they did it reason being there is no other record to broken so no matter how many downloads they got the Guinness world record was to be made.
So Mozilla Firefox did make a Guinness world record of the most downloaded software within 24hours. The number of downloads went up to 7378216. But there is bit confusion on that as well. If you check on the home page of spreadfirefox on the right top you will find a heading with blue background stating Firefox downloads : 579137807 [check here] & if you look on the world record page with the map of the world you will find downloads : 7378216.[check here]

So which is the actual value & this does put doubts in its authentication as well.
FireFox 3 Review
Apart from that most important promise of the Firefox was fullfilled with the new version, yes Firefox3 is much faster then Firefox2 & Internet Explorer. The new tabs & new windows open really quickly.
The interface is more mature and decent not bad indeed, some hidden and interesting feature have been added one of my favorite is the ability to drag any image from a website to a folder on your desktop no need to use save image as.
The Website ID feature is quite cool and protects from phishing and help authenticate the sites who have purchased certificates for authentication like paypal, ebay. This feature has been added to the Firefox’s new Smart Location bar. The location bar has been the core focus of development, and have integrated three great features to it, one was the website ID click on the favicon on location bar and you can see its ID to verify its authentication. Second you can simple bookmark any site with only one click by clicking the star on the location bar or usding [ctr + d]. Thirdly once you type your address there is a list of recomendation which do have a flaw as it shows the Title of the site and its URL and sometimes its difficult to find the exact URL.

Apart from more on the features can be checked out at Mozilla Firefox3 Features

Adobe Labs have released beta version of there upcoming Adobe Dreamweaver, Fireworks & soundbooth. The beta releases are available for download from the adobe labs page.

So whats new & what we can expect from the upcoming releases
Upcoming Adobe Dreamweaver
The new release of Dreamweaver comes with many exciting surprises some of which my most favorite are :
- Live View which included integration of the famous webkit enhancing dreamweaver with a new rendering engine that will help you view your web pages under real-world browser conditions.
- The Related Files feature displays all the documents associated with your current page, whether CSS, JavaScript, PHP, or XML, in a bar along the top of your document thus adding more flexibility to your work environment.
- A Code Navigator pop-up window has been added which will displays CSS rules, server-side includes, external JavaScript functions. Seems like Adobe understands the MVC and interlinked code structures and have enhanced more support to it.
- Code hinting for Ajax and JavaScript frameworks means support for popular JavaScript frameworks including jQuery, Prototype, and Spry.
- Photoshop Integration Drag and drop an Adobe Photoshop® PSD file into a Dreamweaver page to create an image Smart Object.
- Subversion in Dreamweaver: integrates Subversion software for a more robust check-in/check-out experience with file versioning, rollback, and more
- Adobe® AIR™ authoring support Create multiplatform desktop applications from your Dreamweaver HTML and JavaScript sites with new Adobe AIR™ authoring support.
Upcoming Adobe Fireworks
Fireworks used for rapidly prototype websites, application interfaces, and other interactive designs. Create, edit, and optimize web graphics more accurately and faster than ever with the enhanced toolset. Demo your design live for your client, or e-mail an interactive PDF file. This version comes with
- New user interface > similar to photo shop / illustrator and easy switch between them

Too many passwords are quite difficult to remeber though if you do but still who wants to type the same user name / password every day so generally a good way is to ask Firefox to save the passwords. But what to do if you really need to know what password you save would you prefer going throught the long password recovery process by all websites or you need some help in there.
Well here is the catch nodoubt its easy to recover passwords but its unsafe as well so firstly. So lets how unsafe they can be. To see which passwords you have saved into Firefox simply go to :
Tools >> options >> security >> Show Password
There you will find the URL’s and usernames of all the sites who’s password you have saved in Firefox now to reveal the password simply click on “Show Passwords” and firefox will show you all the passwords. This is good way of recovering your passwords but very unsecure as well as any one using your computer can easily steal all your passwords and you can’t do anything thing about it. But there is a way.. (more…)

Do you trust your anti virus application and have complete faith that it wont cheat on you. Well no need to trust it completely now you can create your own dummy virus file and see how your anti virus application reacts to it.
The dummy virus file is known as EICAR Standard Anti-Virus Test File & was developed by European Institute for Computer Antivirus Research. It was developed to allow people, companies and AV programmers to test their software without having a real computer virus that could damage the computer. (more info at Wikepedia)

How to Create a EICAR Standard Anti-Virus Test File
Creating a file is quite easy just open Notepad, write X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*
and save the file as either as a .com file. As soon as you save it your anti virus should react and inform and try to remove the file immediately, if it does then yes you anti virus is running and keeping the viruses away if not then i guess you should think about getting some other anti virus.

Protection of a computer is essential, though i never believed that i had to be serious in protection of PC’s until i was hit by viruses and once a virus gets through there are spy ware’s, Trojans and God know what else in the package. So now i do recommend that we should all protect our PC’s. When ever we buy a new PC i.e. laptop or a desktop it is usually packed with softwares of course if your are buying a Windows based machine. Initially they all have a 60 day trial period for Norton Anti virus or Symentic Anti virus and we are in peace and hardly bother about the issue of PC protection.
But once those 60 days are over there is message “Your trial period is over please purchase” at that point you have two options either uninstall the app and continue your work and wait for a virus attack, or pay 35$ - 50$ anually for a basic protection or you can spend - 0$ and get hold of one of the free anti virus softwares we have mentioned below.

With the launch of Windows Vista Microsoft is spreading around the news of yet another launch of Windows 7 by 2009, the news is picking up so much pace that recently a Hoax version of Windows 7 was found over all major torrent sites and those who downloaded found out later that it was just a cute joke.
So far the Windows 7 launch might turn out to be a good strategy, Microsoft Windows Vista didnt do much good to the version, its supper heavy interface too many of Security Alerts and still a bit unstable image didnt go well with the Windows Vista. Though one thing is quite clear and seems quite clean that the Microsoft Windows 7 will be a version of Microsoft Vista with the same functionality, same enhancements just wrapped around a better packing and new marketing campaign.
In Mid of 2007 i switch to Windows Vista as it came pre installed with my laptop, initially windows Vista didn’t perform at any standards, yes the initial looks were good, with shinny bar’s, desktop widgets, wallpapers themes, icons but the problems was that it was very slow in performance, it used to get hang the compute with IE7 and when i started using it i happend to find ouw how bad it sucks in performance.
But with a little support of a technical friend i ripped off all the junk pre installed softwares, installed Firefox, OpenOffice, and switched the setting to high performance removing all the shinney bar and my problems got solved.
Now whats next we got to see is what will be Windows 7 and IE 8 going to be like on which i will add in my next post.

With the web evolving at a very high speed do we really need an operating system or do we only need a web browser? If i look at the my web activity and my desktop activity what is the one thing that i use more then anything else i would say a web browser.
Years back we used to use our desktop to process documents (using Microsoft Office) we used to check our e-mails(using Microsoft Outlook) we used to chat with friends (using MSN messenger, ICQ, AOL), we used to manage our photo galleries into folders, listened the music on winamp. But things have changed now everything we used to do offline is online, we have broadband internet to access our online applications, we use google docs to process our documents, we use gmail to check all our e-mails, we use meebo to get in touch with our friends(on gtalk, msn, aol, yahoo messenger), we use flickr to manage our pictures, we use YouTube to watch our videos, we use wikipedia to access our encyclopedia & we use last.fm to listen to our music. Do we Really need a Microsoft Windows ?
If i talk in terms of web developers and engineers yes at some level we do need linux or Windows, but if i talk in terms of general people, who use the computer in there daily activity they don’t need a full fledged OS with 1000’s of pre installed applications, spend ridiculous amount of money on softwares, firewalls, anti virus and worry all the time about the computer crashing and loosing there data.
Keeping this in view on 7th January 2008 goS (Green Operating System) lacunches.
