Access Gmail Offline
Posted by zee on January 29th, 2009 Comment »Today the Gmail team has announced another exciting Gmail Labs feature “Access Gmail in an offline mode”.
Now you can access your Gmail even if their is no internet. Gmail primaralary being used via browser, one feature that lacks there is the ability to access email even if you are offline. Maybe you are travelling and you cannot gain access to Wifi but you would like to sort the emails that are already in the inbox.

So now with Gmail labs you can make your Gmail accessible even if you are offline. You can enable this feature by going into Lab’s and once enabled Gmail will use Google Gears to download a local cache of your email inbox. Once you are connected to the internet that cache will be synchronized with Gmail’s servers. But if you loose connetivity Gmail will automatically switch to offline mode & the data stored on your computer’s hard drive will be made accesible to you.
So What exactly can you do in Offline Mode
In offline mode you can read messages, star and lable them and even send emails while working offline. Though your messages will be not be send immediately rather they will be stored in your outbox and once you go online will be dispatched immediately. The offline mode is somewhere close to our desktop email clients, get email and read and sort even when offline.
Another interesting feature of the offline mode is the ability to use “flakey connection mode” means if you connection is slow and keeps on disconnecting then this the mode for you. In this mode the inbox will used from the cache and once it finds the connection a little stable it will sync up your email in the background thus making the email inbox much faster and less dependent on the internet.
Great job by the Gmail team indeed and i just jumped into using the Gmail Offline Mode.
