Digg & its Traffic dump
Posted by zee on February 16th, 2008 Comment »Digg the famous social network which shares quality of content is an essential playground for many web owners, so far digg has made two very strong foundations, one is quality / quantity of content it provides and second is SEO of every story published on digg.
Digg works in a very simple way, you submit your story linked to the source of the story which could be your blog or any other web and send a shout of your story to your friends in the digg community, if your friends like the story they digg the story and every dugg received by the story increases its value in the digg community. If in a limited time your story receives more then 150 dugg’s your story becomes popular and if digg staff think its a good story they make it popular and bring it to the front page. Now this is where the fun starts.
Within minutes your story source which could be your website starts receiving more then +50000 unique visitors your traffic grows at a very rapid speed, apart from digg your story’s URL get picked up by many other web sites which you have never heard of and it adds more traffic to your blog / site. But the bad part is this all is temporary, for 1-2 week your receive traffic which steadily declines and goes down and down and eventually your traffic returns to normal.
Although you cant keep this a regular routine its not possible for every story you submit to reach the top pages of digg but some do and you can enjoy on that so the real question is how to get your story on the main page of the digg?
How to get the story on the Main Page of Digg ?
- Unique story submitted at the right time
The story your publish should be interesting, it should be weired and unique and suspicious, it should be confusing and raise the curiosity of the users. You can submit Videos / Images / Stories but they must follow the guideline above. If you are publishing a breaking news, like Microsoft Bid on Yahoo it should be the first submission before every body else around the world. I.e. you should publish it when Steve is thinking about the bid and you release the news on digg. - Title of the Story
Yes title plays the key role, if you title your story as “Microsoft is going to bid on Yahoo” its not that exciting rather if you say “Yahoo is being acquired by Microsoft” then you have just raised attention and majority of dugg you get is due to the title. - Description of the Story
After title you have to add description now don’t explain everything and just be brief and suspicious and add curiosity to the description of the story. - A Friend in need is a friend in deed at Digg
You need friends at Digg, yes many friends, approximately about 1200 friends or more for your stories to reach the main page. The more the friends who dugg your story the more your chances of getting to the top. So get more friends you have to spend time on digg, connect with people who share stories and add them as friends. Its a bit long list work but its a good investment of time. - Seeding the Shots
Now your story is published so now your market it after submission you reach the page of the story there you will see a link called “Shout” use that link and shot to your friends with sentences like ” please dugg and share your stories with me any time” such sentences clearly reflect tit for tat i.e. if they dugg your story your would dugg there stories, ps, majority of friends you have on dugg don’t know your they only remember you from your picture / avatar on digg or your user name rest they don’t care who you are and where you are from so keep your avatar unique and keep dugging your friends stories.
