Yahoo’s New Home Page Design

Posted by zee on September 18th, 2008

According to a blog post on Yahoo’s Corp Blog, Yahoo is planning to make changes to its home page yes another redesign again. This seems to be quite a quick decision as Yahoo has a history of not changing its main page for years.

We’re working on a new homepage that will help you get more out of the Internet, make more of your precious time, and make sense of all the things going on in your world. After lots of ongoing research (i.e., focus groups, usability experiments, etc.), today we’ve begun testing an all-new, more streamlined Yahoo.com that will bring the things that matter most to you –- no matter where they “live” on the Web.

Whats about to change on New Yahoo?
Well the first and foremost noticeable thing is the color of Yahoo’s logo, from red to Purple! after which the layout takes a 180 degree turn with the movement of Yahoo services from Left to right and addition of Dashboard to the left.

The dashboard feature is something new being tested that will let you add previews of your favorite Yahoo! and non-Yahoo! services – starting with checking for new mail from multiple accounts (initially Yahoo! Mail, AOL Mail and Gmail, with more to come) [I DONOT SEE HOTMAIL in the list YET] weather forecasts, and local events. Seems a bit familiar functionality of NetVibes but i am not sure if they are also focusing on bringing the web to one place. Of course if Yahoo allows non-Yahoo services then there is a chance that maybe they allow other publishers to create and distribute services which Yahoo users can use.

The second noticeable thing mentioned on there blog & in the screen shot is ‘features area of the page’ of the content updates.

When will the new Yahoo go live?

Since they are testing it so very few and random users will be selected to test it out starting in US, UK, France & India. It would be random so don’t be scared that if you log on to YAHOO and see a new look there.

What do you think of the new Yahoo ! (leave a comment)
